Keeping in touch with your facebook friends on your symbian smartphone is much more convenient using a facebook client. There are quite lots of symbian facebook client applications like gravity and the rest of them but the one I prefer most is fMobi. fMobi is built with the all the new facebook upgrades included. The post I’m about to make is as a result of research which emanates from existing symbain hacking methods and I so much fine tuned it that I have applied it on the following Nokia phones with success: Nokia N8, Nokia E5 Nokia E7, Nokia N95 and Nokia E65. From the aforementioned phones, you should know that I have covered all Nokia symbian operating systems. Now read carefully and you will see clearly where the slight but effective changes lie. You don’t need the screenshot for this just follow the screenshots you have already downloaded but make sure you watch out for my modification in this post.

Make sure you have the following ready:

1. DrWeb6 for symbian
2. QuarantineDriversLDD.zip
3. RomPacther+ 3.1 Lite or RomPatcherPlus_3.1.sisx
4. X-plore_s60_3rd_1_53.sisx (optional)
5. InstallServers_Pack.Zip (optional)
4. A memory card reader or a nokia usb cable
5. A symbian phone that has either an inbuilt mass memory or a memory card
6. A computer

Don’t worry, I will post a link where you can download all the required files.

1. Connect phone your phone to PC with your usb cable, or memory card to PC with cardreader, (Make sure that DO NOT connect the phone in Ovi Suite or Nokia PC suite mode plus make sure that neither Nokia PC Suite nor Ovi Suite is running when you connect the phone with PC (because system folders can not be accessed in these modes. You need to do this so that you can have access to the private folder inside your mass memory or memory card.
 

2. Download QuarantineDriversLDD.zip (it is in the zip folder I uploaded, I will drop the link below). NOW PLEASE FOR WHATEVER REASON, DONT USE ”QuarantineF.zip”

In some posts that you have read, they will tell you to use QuarantineF.zip for phones with memory card and that you should use QuarantineDriversLdd.zip for phones with MassMemory; I’m telling you confidentially now that you should only use QuarantineDriversLDD.zip for all type of phones.

3. Now extract all the contents in quarantineDriverLDD.zip into a folder named “Private” (that is inside the archive). Copy the folder “20024113″ that will be found inside “Private” and unpack to phone mass storage or memory card. Now this is what I mean, after extracting the zip file on your PC, a folder named private will be created exactly where you unzip the archive.
 

Now go to My Computer and open the memory card or mass memory connected to PC (make sure that you are opening memory card or mass memory). Now find and open the “Private” folder and paste the folder named”20024113″ which is inside the folder you extracted from QuarantineDRIVERS.DLL to the private folder inside the private folder of your memory card or mass memory . Now disconnect the phone (or memory card) from PC.

If you don’t see “Private” folder in memory card then enable the “Show hidden and System files” option in your PC and if it still doesn’t appear, then create the folder “private” manually on your memory card.

4.Download and install DrWeb6 for symbian
If it ask for registration key then press cancel it will activate trial mode for you and this is all you need

5. Launch DrWeb.

6. Go to Options – Quarantine

Go Options – Select all

Go Options – Restore -.

Now, RomPacther drivers are in c:\sys\bin folder

7. Download and install RomPacther+ 3.1 Lite(also in the package)

Launch RomPatcher+ and apply Open4all patch. Now you have access to write in all system folders. You then need to apply installserver patch, so that you can install all unsigned apps compatible with your phone .

Note: if you use an older s60v3 phone e.g nokia E65 , N73 and others, you will encounter one little problem and this is the solution:

After doing all above, open your rompatcher and enable installserver and open for all you will notice that install server will show red but open4all will indicate green. Download installserver pack from from HERE
 

Nokia E65 – it has OS 9.1, so after extracting the installserver pack copy out installserver9.1 and open your xplore in your phone then copy the installserver to C:/sys/bin that is all.

Now go back to your rompatcher and apply installserver this time it will show green. Mind you, if you want your rompatcher to always work automatically please, make sure you download the latest version of rompatcher then set installserver to auto patch from your rompatches. Otherwise whenever you restart your phone and you wish to install any unsigned app, you will still get the certificate error. So if you install the rompatcher from my package then be sure to manually apply patches anytime you want to install apps that are not signed.

With the steps above carefully followed, you should be able to hack any symbian phone no matter the operating system. Symbian Anna, S60V5 and S60V3 can all be hacked using this method.

Hard Reset Nokia N8, E7, 5800XM, N97 (Symbian Anna & Symbian ^3 included)

Unlike old S60V3 Nokia symbian phones that use the same key combination for hard resetting, newer Nokia screen touch devices use different key combinations to perform a hard reset. Performing a hard reset restores the original operating system from the ROM (Read Only Memory).  You may want to restore your phone to factory settings for many reasons:

1. Slow operating system

2. Virus attack

3. Boot -up failure with ‘contact the retailer‘ error message

4. Incompatible applications that can’t be fully removed

5. General system error

Now, before you perform a hard reset on your Nokia N8 or any symbian smartphone you’re using, you should back up your personal data and files as you will lose everything on the phone. Nokia Maps and Ovi store may also be gone after performing the operation.

There are many reasons beyond the ones I listed above and before running to a phone specialist, you can fix the problem yourself and save some time. There are actually two methods to do this:

If you can still access the menu to perform basic operations

For Nokia N8, Nokia 5800, Nokia N97, Nokia C6, C5, E8, E6 and almost all Nokia phones (both symbian and series 40), there’s a code that works generally if you can still access the menu and operate the phone.

- Power on the phone

- At the home screen, press *#7370#

- Enter your phone security code and the phone restarts.

It boots up with the default factory settings restored.

Now, If you can’t access the phone normally or it won’t boot up due to certain reasons, you need to use some key combinations to get your symbian device working again.

 

How to Hard Reset Nokia N8, Nokia C7 , Nokia E7 and other Symbian ^3 or Anna at Boot-up

- Make sure the device is turned off

-Press and hold the Menu key, the Camera and the Volume Down button then the Power key together

- Hold them until the device asks for your location

This hard reset button combination also works on other Symbian ^3 and Symbian Anna touch-screen smartphones.

 

How to Hard Reset Nokia N97 at Boot-up

- Make sure your Nokia N97 is turned off

- Hold the Left Shift key, the Space Bar and the Back key then the Power key simultaneously

- Hold them until the device asks for your location

 

How to Hard Reset Nokia 5800 at Boot-up

- Power off the phone or re-insert the battery

- Hold the Green and Red call keys, the Camera capture key and then the Power key at the same time

- Hold them until the device boots up and asks for country

 

Other Nokia Phones

For other Nokia phones, I mean only Nokia symbian phones with normal keypads such as Nokia E5, N95, N81, N73, E65, E51, E55 you can perform a hard reset by using a key combination that works for all S60V3 and S60V5 phones:

- Re-insert the battery

- Press and hold the * button, 3, Call key and Power button simultaneously

- Keep holding till the phone boots up and asks for your location.

Retrieve Forgotten Memory Card Password on Nokia Symbian Phones

We all make mistakes and forgetting your memory card password is not uncommon. With a locked memory card, you won’t even be able to access your files even if you attach it to your computer with a card reader. However, if you’re using a Nokia symbian phone, it’s dead easy to retrieve your forgotten security password. This trick only works on hacked phones only because you’ll be needing a file explorer to view hidden system folders.  If your phone isn’t hacked with open4all patch already applied or platform security turned off, this probably won’t work for you. To get your memory card unlocked, follow the procedure below:

1. Open X-plore and press 0 (zero) on your keypad

2. Check all the four options to show hidden and system files

3. Go to this location: C:/Sys/Data/Mmcstore

 

4. Make sure mmcstore file is highlighted as shown above and press 3 on your keypad to open X-plore’s hex viewer

5. I set my password to 12345 and you can see it shown in the screenshot below:

Your password is shown at the right side of the hex viewer. You can as well use the hex editor to change the change the password here. I only tried this on an OS 9.1 symbian phone but I guess it should be the same on newer Symbian phones. It’s an easy way to retrieve or reset your forgotten SD card password. Cool trick, huh? Nokia Announces 808 Pureview with a Crazy 41MP Camera

The moment I saw this, I thought it was just a typo or some sort of joke. 41MP in a mobile phone? Well, if you’re a photography freak, this might be your dream phone. Nokia just announced its 808 Pureview which is one of the most astounding surprises at the Mobile World Congress. Of course, Critics have something to say about the design and bogus camera but I do believe is quite a laudable innovation. Nokia 808 PureView HD which is Nokia N8 successor comes with a crazy 41 megapixels ( Carl Zeiss, over-sampling technology), 1.3 GHz CPU, a 4-inch, 360 x 640 pixel screen, 512 MB of RAM and 16 GB of storage.

With very tight competition from iOS and Android, you have to come up with something quite innovative to stay alive in the smartphone market. Nokia realized this and went from S60V5 to Symbian ^1, released Symbian ^3 in no time and eventually Symbian Anna. You’d think it would stop there but the emergence of Maemo OS, Meego and Symbian Belle OS which now comes with most newly released Nokia smartphones changed that general belief that Nokia is losing it. Must Nokia Go Android to Survive in the Smartphone Market?

There are clear indications that Nokia is losing the smartphone market due to lots of reasons. For over a decade, Nokia’s dominance was almost undisputed as demand for Symbian OS kept rising till the emergence and rapid growth of  iOS and Android over the years. Nokia tried several updates to stay alive in the market by upgrading its Symbian platform but obviously, this hasn’t helped much. From Symbian ^3, we saw Symbian Anna and Belle which hasn’t made much difference.

Meego OS was discontined and Maemo too isn’t so much in demand. These are clear indications that Nokia definitely has to change its marketing strategy. According to its financial report published last month, Nokia recorded a loss of $1.7 billion in the first quarter of the year and this proves that the Lumnia series running Windows 7 are yet to pay off either.

 

From a personal stand point, I know a couple of people who used to believe so much in Symbian OS but not anymore. People now prefer Android or iOS and that is the real problem Nokia is facing. The competition from Apple and Samsung is suffocating Nokia and its native operating system which it’s not willing to give up. There are several factors responsible for this huge loss and the drastic drop in sales.

 

Sluggish OS

Don’t get it twisted, I’m not saying Symbian OS is that bad, but we all know phones like Nokia N96, N97 are so slow and Series 60v5 OS came with lots of bugs. That’s probably the reason Symbian OS underwent series of upgrades in such a little time but lots of people were already losing faith in Symbian OS as a capable operating system. Nokia N8 revolutionized Symbian OS for a while but I still don’t understand why Nokia N9, which should be a more powerful version of N8, came with Meego OS which was discontinued within a short time.

It’s like Nokia made it clear that it was losing faith in Symbian OS. Maemo OS too didn’t go down too well with consumers either.

Nokia looks and sounds old

Seriously, Nokia now sounds old school. This sounds like a personal thing and I don’t expect you to throw bricks at me for that. The Symbian OS still looks and feels the same and believe me, it’s getting boring. I’ve been using Nokia phones for the past five years and its like you get bored with the same old thing. You might want to argue that Nokia 808 Preview with 41MP camera is a great innovation and I’m not arguing that but instead of experimenting with all sorts of operating systems, Symbian OS should have been polished, improved and marketed the right way.

We all see how Samsung came from obscurity to dominate the smartphone market. Samsung knew what consumers wanted and became a force to be reckoned with when it comes to producing great smartphones.

Something wrong with the administration?

Stephen Elop has made some bad decisions and this has probably impacted greatly on the loss Nokia recorded. There has been lots of inconsistency lately and we’ve seen Nokia experimenting with all sorts of OS and more recently, the partnership with Windows which hasn’t been profitable.

Elop is from Microsoft but his administration hasn’t been the best, symbian is dying fast and the replacement isn’t doing so well.

Will Nokia ever bounce back from this decline?

Android is so much in demand now but I doubt if we will ever see a Nokia smartphone running Android OS. The focus now seems to have shifted to WP7 but then again, Nokia seems to be admitting failure with that by re-launching Meego OS and Symbian OS.

Bad decisions, which seems to come from the company “integrity” made Nokia fail to adopt Android as it’s OS and bet the whole future of the company on Windows Phone 7.

Announcing the death of Symbian and Meego OS in 2011 pronounced doom for the company and even if Android is adopted now, I guess it’s too late. Apple redefined what a smartphone should be like with the popular iPhone, Samsung understood that and followed suit, Nokia thought its users will ever be loyal no matter what and failed to catch up.The smartphone market is already crowded – HTC, Samsung,Motorola and the rest of them have already bombarded the market with Android OS. Nokia might not succeed jumping in…What Nokia needs is a capable and consistent OS and a very good marketing strategy. Nokia is still relevant and this is undisputed but lots of changes need to be made.
