Crystal Palace have made an approach to Blackpool in the hope of bringing manager Ian Holloway to Selhurst Park.
Palace have been without a permanent boss since Dougie Freedman
left to take over at Bolton
in October.
"An approach has been made but it's far from done," Palace chairman Steve Parish told BBC Sport.
Holloway, 49, who has also managed Bristol City, QPR, Plymouth and Leicester, has been with Blackpool since May 2009.
In his first full season at Bloomfield Road, 2009-10, he led Blackpool into the Premier League,
beating Cardiff in the play-off final
after finishing sixth in the Championship.
They were relegated the following season,
but a year later Holloway led them to the play-offs again, West Ham
ending their hopes of a second promotion with a
2-1 victory at Wembley.
Palace, who have not been in the top division since a
one-year stay in 2004-05, lost their first three league matches of the
current campaign.
Six wins out of seven then lifted them into fourth place in the Championship before Freedman's departure.
Former Charlton manager Lennie Lawrence presided over a
draw at Barnsley plus a notable victory at Leicester as caretaker boss
before joining Freedman at the Reebok Stadium.
